Valentine’s Day Traditions
Valentine’s Day Traditions
Valentine’s Day is rapidly approaching and lovers all the world over will be expecting some treats from their honey as proof that they’re madly in love with them.
Traditionally, flowers, chocolates, jewelry, and a card are what’s given on this day that celebrates love. Why do we give these gifts on Valentine’s Day, you ask?
Let’s explore…
Flowers are nature’s masterpiece. Not only are they easy on the eyes, but they’re usually fragrant and meaningful to receive from a loved one. Roses are number one when it comes to romance, but any flower given in love can be swoon-worthy and make a person feel special. Red roses in particular are always a good bet, but no need to be so predictable. Give your sweetheart lilies, sunflowers, or even a house plant that will last for years to come. You can even be downright practical and purchase vegetable seedlings or fruit-bearing saplings.
Giving a beautiful, scented, living (and possibly fruitful) thing to the one you love is the entire point of it all.
And what about Valentine’s chocolate?
Chocolate not only tastes delicious, but it’s an indulgent treat.
Chocolate has been given as a gift of love for centuries, dating back to the Aztecs. These days, scientists are discovering new and exciting ways that certain types of chocolate are actually GOOD for our health! Chocolate tastes amazing, has a smooth mouthfeel, smells incredible, and eating it is an all-around sensual experience.
No wonder it makes the perfect gift to give on Valentine’s Day! (Luckily, we have a nice selection of premium chocolate candies at the Strasburg Creamery!)
And who doesn’t love to get the gift of jewelry on Valentine’s Day?
Jewelry is beautiful and sparkly and expensive and can (should) be composed of precious metals and rare stones. Festooning the one you love with elements mined directly from the Earth itself is proof you love him or her.
Not only are these gorgeous baubles a fancy and fantastic way to profess your adoration, but your loved one will have these keepsakes for the rest of his or her life and can even pass them on for generations to come. Giving the gift of an heirloom proves your heart belongs to the one you love.
Don’t forget to top off the gift-giving with a charming card that professes your undying love to your honey on Valentine’s Day!
Gifts are easy to give but sharing your tender feelings via a hand-written love note is essential on Valentine’s Day.
How many of us have saved every card and note our lover has given us throughout the years? They can be more precious than silver and gold…and even chocolate! If you can’t conjure up kind words of your own, there’s no shame in copying down your favorite romantic poem. It’s the thought that counts, as they say.
Valentine’s Day comes around one day a year. With a little planning and effort, you can make it memorable by showering your sweetie with beautiful flowers, delicious chocolate, sparkling jewelry, and a heartfelt love note.
Ain’t love grand!!
