Declutter Before The Holidays
Four Ways To Declutter Before The Holidays
Now that Halloween is officially over, it’s time to prepare for that big December day that we’re all counting down to. The one tough thing about Christmas is the fact that more “stuff” makes its way into our already cluttered homes. This year, commit to taking some time to clear your house out before Santa visits.
1. Go From Room to Room
Instead of picking through each and every item in every room and deciding what to keep and what to get rid of, move everything that’s not furniture out of each room into an adjoining room. Then, add the items you want to keep back into the rooms. Whatever’s left over that hasn’t been moved back in gets the boot.
2. Sell or Donate
Don’t just throw everything you don’t want anymore away. Sell the items, or donate them to charity. Take the money you make and spend it on an experience and/or Christmas presents.
3. Don’t Forget the Closets
Decluttering is the perfect time to go through closets as well. Often closets become catch-alls for things we aren’t sure where to display throughout the house. Closets are often the location of hoards we have no use for. Don’t neglect them!
4. Consider Investing in Experiences Instead of Gifts
As a society, we just like stuff. Instead of adding more clutter to your home this holiday season, consider buying your family members experiences instead. Not only will this keep your house cleaner, but you’ll make memories that can last a lifetime.
Maybe you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed at the prospect of your current hoard expanding during the upcoming holidays, but with a little blood, sweat, and tears, you can start with a blank canvas so to speak. Unload the stuff, and enjoy your holiday more as a result
