Candy Cane Christmas
There’s not much that says Christmas more than the red and white striped candy cane. The sweet peppermint candy can be found in stockings on Christmas morning, hanging on Christmas trees as a decoration and in candy bowls everywhere during the holiday season. It’s also used an ingredient to make every day items a bit more festive at this time of year.
The candy cane has been around since the 17th century, when legend has it a choirmaster thought up peppermint sticks to quiet children during church services. Since it was during advent, he told his candymaker to add crooks at the top of the sticks to pay tribute to the shepherds who visited Jesus in Bethlehem. The rest is history. Candy canes have been an important part of Christmas tradition around the world ever since.
The Strasburg Creamery uses candy canes as a signature flavor this time of year. We offer candy cane fudge and candy cane ice cream, as well as the real thing in the Strasburg Country Store.
We welcome you to pay us a visit this holiday season to try our Christmas confections and enjoy the splendor of Strasburg at this time of year.
Wishing you the best of the Season!
